OUTFIT, HAIR + MAKEUP
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
I definitely advocate for choosing outfits that represent your personal brand. If you so choose, you will be able to change twice (for a total of three outfits) during the session, so bring some options. The backdrops I choose tend to lean neutral in order to not distract from the people in front of them. This also allows for a little more flexibility in wardrobe. So if your personal brand looks like bright colours, great! If you want to be more of a blank slate, darker, neutral colours might suit you better.
When in doubt, simplify. Try to keep your neck clear of any bulk (chunky scarfs, distracting jewelry, ornate collars). Showing a bit of skin is great, but again, make sure it’s not so much that it takes focus away from your face, which should always be the main character in these photos. If you are unsure, bring a number of choices and I can help you narrow it down during the session.
You know your colours best. Choose outfits that best show off your skin tone, hair colour, and eyes.
*DO makes sure your outfit choices are steamed/ironed and lint free. I do not smooth wrinkles out of clothes during the editing process.
FULL GLAM, DIY, OR NATURAL?
At the end of the day, this is a completely personal preference. I get asked pretty regularly what I recommend and while my impulse is always to go more natural it’s really up to you. Whatever will make you feel the best, do that!
If you do choose to get your hair and/or makeup done by a professional, make sure to schedule to be finished an hour prior to the start of our session so you’re not late! For on-location sessions, we’ve chosen the timing around the best light. We’d hate to lose that! If we’re shooting in-studio, I often will schedule a number of sessions in one day.
*Note: In the days leading up to your headshot session make sure you are drinking enough water and getting enough sleep. This will do wonders for your skin. Also if I can give one makeup tip, it’s to make sure your skin and lips are well moisturized.
FAQ’s
01.What shoud i bring?
A selection of wardrobe changes, essential hair and makeup, a small mirror for touchups, translucent powder, comfortable shoes for on-location sessions, water.
02.will you direct me?
Of course. Very few of my clients are professional models. I will direct you through the whole process.
03. Who Chooses The photos?
Within a day or two of the session I will send you about 25 - 50 of the best images from the shoot with watermarks. From that you will choose your top 5/15, depending on which session you booked. Once you send me back your selection, I will edit and retouch those photos for you.
04. Retouching?
My intent is to always create a true representation of you. For this reason my philosophy is that anything non permanent (blemishes, redness, stray hairs, etc.) I will remove, but anything permanent (wrinkles, freckles, etc.) I do not remove. Please feel free to discuss further with me if you have a special request!
05.what makes a good headshot?
The best headshots showcase the best version of the person being photographed. Keep this in mind particularly when you are making hair and makeup choices. If you can no longer see your real skin, or if your eyelashes are so voluminous that you can’t keep your eyes open, you may have gone too far. Remember that these photos should represent who you really are.
06. Can I have the Raw files?
I do not provide raw files to clients.
08. how often should i update my headshots?
As soon as your current headshot no longer represents your current brand or how you look, you should update your headshots. Every 2-3 years is standard.
07. When will i receive my images?
You can expect to receive your final images one week after you provide your selection from the proofs I provide.
